The General's Daughter by Nelson DeMille

Having read all of the "John Corey" novels to date, I decided to dig into the author's other work. Paul Brenner is an Army CID (Criminal Investigation Division) officer assigned to investigate the mysterious death of the General's Daughter. During his investigation, he gradually learns her dark secrets which eventually threaten his career and his own well being. While the John Corey books tend to involve mystery, suspense and treachery on a grand scale, this book is much more personal and in some ways darker, revealing that some people are anything but what they appear to be.
