Corey finds himself drawn into the investigation even though he has been ordered not to interfere. If you have read the books so far, you know that following orders isn't exactly second nature to John Corey. This story of espionage and counter-terrorism culminates with the tragic events of 9/11. A native New Yorker, the twin towers attacks no doubt affected the author deeply and personally, and he has brilliantly incorporated historical events into this novel.
