I was looking for something new to read when I stumbled across this author. The plot summary sounded intriguing, and reminded me of the "Stargate" and "Expanse" universes. In fact, this story has many similarities to "Expanse": Earth is over-populated, and mankind has discovered the remnants of a vanished alien civilization. We don't understand their technology, but we're able to exploit it to a limited extent. Gateway itself is quite similar to Pheobe or one of th other asteroid mining colonies of Expanse, complete with tunnels and microgravity. The narrative itself is quite different from either of its newer counterparts and alternates between past events on Gatweay and the present with our main character sitting through therapy sessions with a robotic analyst who attempts to help him deal with some repressed trauma. Recommended for "hard" science fiction fans.
